The Chamber Experiment in SCP-173

SCP-173 is an indie survival horror game where players step into the shoes of a disposable Class D test subject trapped with a lethal anomaly. The goal is simply to stay alive in an experiment designed to kill you, managing basic facilities while keeping your eyes locked on the threat.

The core danger in this experience revolves entirely around your line of sight. SCP-173 is a hostile entity that remains frozen in place as long as someone is looking directly at it. Break eye contact for even a fraction of a second, and it instantly closes the distance. This means your primary defense is just staring. You have to back away cautiously and maintain a wide gap. Blinking is a normal reflex, but here it becomes a massive liability. Let your character blink while the creature is too close, and the run ends violently.

That basic staring contest might sound easy on paper. But the containment chamber itself is actively working against you.

You are forced to monitor and maintain two decaying systems: a light generator and the room’s ventilation. Equipment failure is just as dangerous as the anomaly standing in front of you—maybe even more so. You have to watch the system indicators closely and move to make repairs before they hit zero.

Letting the generator die brings an instant game over. Total darkness means SCP-173 is free to move unseen, guaranteeing immediate death. Ignoring the ventilation system offers a slightly slower punishment. When the air stops flowing, toxic gas leaks into the room. This damages your health directly while forcing your character to blink at a much faster rate. Trying to outmaneuver an entity that attacks when you blink while choking on poison gas is exactly as stressful as it sounds.

You end up having to juggle walking backward, managing a blink meter, and scrambling to fix machinery just to buy another few minutes of life.
