Fireboy and Watergirl 5: Elements is a cooperative platformer that throws players into a massive network of environmental puzzles. Beating the game requires precise coordination between two opposing characters to bypass deadly hazards and clear increasingly difficult rooms.

Mastering the Elemental Temples

This fifth entry abandons the single-setting format of older titles. Instead, it spreads the action across several distinct zones. Each environment introduces mechanics that drastically change how you handle a room. In the Ice Temple, you have to manage momentum on slippery frozen platforms. The Light Temple relies on angled mirrors and light beams to unlock heavy gates. There are even specialized all-fire and all-water stages designed to test one specific character’s mobility. It keeps you from relying on muscle memory.

Solo and Cooperative Play

The core rules remain completely strict. Fireboy easily walks through lava but dies instantly if he touches a pool of water. Watergirl wades through water safely but cannot survive extreme heat. Both characters have to work around these fatal weaknesses to grab their color-coded diamonds and reach the exit doors.

Playing with a friend on the same keyboard is the traditional approach. It requires actual communication—moving ahead too quickly usually means trapping your partner behind a heavy stone slab. But you can tackle the entire campaign solo. Taking control of both characters at the exact same time turns an already tricky platformer into a demanding brain exercise.
