Guns vs Magic: A Dieselpunk Roguelite RPG

Guns vs Magic is a roguelite RPG that crashes ancient sorcery into gritty industrial technology. Players take on the role of a magic student trying to stop a corrupted mentor from destroying the world.

The premise kicks off with a massive mess left by your former teacher, Lucius. After getting his hands on a cursed crystal, the once-benevolent wizard goes completely off the rails. He transforms into an evil sorcerer building an army of enchanted creatures, leaving it up to his student, Silvius, to fix things.

The setting itself pulls a lot of weight here. Instead of standard fantasy castles, the game throws you into dungeons where mystical energy meets heavy metal machinery.

Blending Firepower and Spellcasting

You aren’t just relying on old-school incantations in this game. SMOKOKO LTD handed players a surprisingly varied arsenal that bridges two completely different combat styles. One minute you might be casting from an enchanted wand, and the next you are clearing a crowded room with a shotgun. Pistols and magical staves sit right next to each other in your inventory, letting you constantly switch up your approach.

But basic weapons only get you so far against a corrupted wizard’s forces. This is where the superpower mechanics actually matter. You can drop automated turrets to cover your flank or throw up a wall of lightning to block incoming attacks. Need crowd control? A summoned ring of fire handles groups of enemies pretty quickly. Managing these abilities alongside your standard attacks is the core of the combat loop—and you will need those damage boosts just to survive the later stages.

Confronting the Corrupted

Enemy encounters are built to force constant movement. You will run into everything from basic grunts to highly lethal mages. Fights against major bosses like the enigmatic Archer demand more than just holding down the trigger. Every boss has specific attack patterns and weaknesses that require you to exploit them while carefully watching your cooldowns.

The narrative strings these fights together around the idea of redemption. Silvius wants to break the crystal’s curse and save his teacher, rather than just taking down another villain. The hand-crafted dieselpunk visuals give the environments a distinct, grimy atmosphere that contrasts nicely with the bright flashes of spellcasting. A dynamic soundtrack picks up the pace during those heavy boss encounters and fades back out when you are just exploring the ruins.

As always, remember to have fun!
