Fireboy and Watergirl 3: Ice Temple is a cooperative puzzle-platformer game that challenges players to guide two elemental characters through a frozen labyrinth. The third entry in the series adds slippery physics and momentum-based obstacles to the classic mix of fire and water mechanics.

Mastering the Frozen Floors

The biggest shift in this installment comes from the ground itself. Ice alters the way both characters move across the map. Players have to account for momentum before taking a step. Sliding across a frozen platform might get you to a switch faster—or send you straight into a hazard. It forces a complete adjustment in timing. You can’t just stop on a dime anymore. That slight delay in braking makes the 36 stages notably harder than earlier entries.

Elemental Teamwork

Even with the new slippery surfaces, the core rules of survival remain intact. Fireboy walks through lava without taking damage, while Watergirl handles the water pools with ease. Just keep them out of each other’s respective elements. And definitely keep both away from the deadly green pools. The level designs don’t rely entirely on ice, though. Older trap mechanics make a strong return. You still need to manipulate light beams and hold down heavy pressure plates. Coordinating elevator rides is often the only way to reach the exit doors. The difficulty ramps up quickly. Figuring out the exact sequence of buttons takes real trial and error.

Two Players, One Keyboard

Playing solo is entirely possible, but doing so requires serious mental gymnastics. The game is built for local multiplayer. Sharing a single keyboard naturally creates tense moments of communication. Both players must sync their movements to clear jumps or trigger gates at the exact right time. It takes constant planning. One person moving out of turn can trap their partner on a lower floor. That usually means starting the stage entirely over.
