Fears to Fathom – Home Alone is a first-person psychological horror game that turns a quiet night indoors into a highly stressful survival situation. Players step into the shoes of a teenager moving through an empty house while an unpredictable, real-world threat slowly closes in.

The setup starts out totally normal. You play as a 14-year-old named Miles, whose parents are out of town for work. Early on, the focus is just on killing time. You grab some food and watch a bit of television. Later, you end up wandering through the quiet hallways of a surprisingly large home. And this pacing is exactly why the game works. Instead of throwing jump scares at you right away, it forces you to sit in that uncomfortable silence we all recognize from staying home alone on a weekend.

The visuals pull more weight than you’d expect for a shorter indie title. A heavy VHS filter covers the screen, giving the whole experience the gritty, uncomfortable look of an old home video. It looks grainy. It feels slightly off. That specific aesthetic makes the dark corners of the house feel genuinely unsafe.

Surviving the Night

Tension here doesn’t come from managing a health bar or an inventory system. It relies entirely on vulnerability. You start getting weird text messages from an unknown number. You hear noises outside. But you can’t just grab a weapon and fight back.

Survival means hiding. Sometimes you’re literally just lying in bed—holding your breath while listening to footsteps echo in the hall. You might find yourself creeping up to a window to peek outside, hoping nobody is looking back at you.
