Fireboy and Watergirl 6: Fairy Tales is a two-player cooperative puzzle platformer that introduces magical companions to the classic elemental gameplay. Players must work together to navigate hazardous temples, solve environmental puzzles, and guide both characters to their respective exit doors.

Survival comes down to basic elemental rules. Fireboy easily walks through lava pits, while Watergirl wades safely through pools of water. But cross those elements, and your character is destroyed. Neither of them can survive touching the green toxic sludge found throughout the stages. You have to actively communicate and cooperate with your partner to make it through. If one person misses a jump or touches the wrong liquid, the level is over for both players.

This entry organizes its 31 distinct levels across a butterfly-shaped selection screen. Beating the opening stage immediately branches the path out, unlocking two new chapters on each wing. It is a nice layout that gives players some freedom to pick their next challenge rather than forcing a completely straight path from start to finish. You still need to collect the colored diamonds scattered around the map before finishing a stage.

The biggest shift in the series formula comes from the new magical companions. Fairies float around the map and act as a third moving piece in the puzzle. Players use the mouse to drag them across the screen to press out-of-reach buttons, operate elevators, or unlock specific gates. You do have to pay attention to their colors to progress. A colored fairy will only interact with mechanisms of that exact same shade. The white fairy is the only exception—it acts as a universal key that activates anything. It definitely adds an extra layer of multitasking to the standard platforming.

How to Play:

To control Fireboy, use the Arrow Keys, and for Watergirl, use the W, A, and D keys. Keep in mind that Fireboy can touch fire elements, while Watergirl can touch water elements. However, neither of them can touch the green goo, so be careful!
