The Lost Vikings
The Lost Vikings – A Classic Puzzle-Platformer
The Lost Vikings is a puzzle-platformer from 1993, developed by the team that later became Blizzard Entertainment. Players control three Vikings—Erik, Baleog, and Olaf—each with unique abilities needed to solve levels. The game originally launched on the Super NES and later expanded to other platforms, including a re-release in 2021 as part of the Blizzard Arcade Collection.
The story follows the Vikings after they’re kidnapped by an alien emperor. Escaping his ship, they end up lost across different time periods and must work together to find their way home.
Gameplay revolves around switching between the three characters to overcome obstacles. Erik can jump and break walls, Baleog fights with a sword and bow, and Olaf blocks attacks with his shield. All three must reach the exit to complete a level, making teamwork essential.
Originally a single-player experience, the Genesis version added a co-op mode where two players could control separate Vikings. The game offers 37 levels (42 in the Genesis version), with challenges that require careful planning—losing a Viking means restarting the level.
