Doodle Champion Island

“Doodle Champion Island Games” is an immersive role-playing browser game created by Google in partnership with Studio 4°C. This interactive Google Doodle was launched to celebrate the 2020 Summer Olympics and Paralympics, as well as to honor Japanese folklore and culture. The game centers around Lucky the Ninja Cat, who competes in various sports events across the island in her quest to become the champion.

Upon starting the game, Lucky arrives by boat at Champion Island, a mystical place where athletes from around the world compete. She is greeted by two Komainu who challenge her to a match of table tennis to test her skills. After proving herself by defeating them, she learns about the island’s seven champions, each a master in a different Olympic sport. Players guide Lucky as she challenges each champion to earn the seven Sacred Scrolls, with the ultimate goal of restoring order to the island and claiming the title of Island Champion.

The game features seven different sports-themed mini-games, including table tennis, skateboarding, archery, rugby, artistic swimming, sport climbing, and marathon, each located in a distinct region of the island that reflects various Japanese landscapes. The sports are presented as engaging mini-games, with the artistic swimming event styled like a rhythm game and the skateboarding event featuring a trick system akin to that of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater.
