Celeste Classic

Celeste Classic is a retro-style platformer that was first released in 2016 for the Pico‑8 virtual console. Players control a character climbing a dangerous mountain, moving through short but challenging stages that get tougher the higher they go. The game is minimalist—there’s no story cutscene or explanation when it begins, just you at the base of the mountain with the goal of reaching the top.

The map is limited to Forsaken City, but it still offers plenty of variety across its 30 stages, with the climb eventually reaching 3000 meters. Mechanics are simple to pick up, yet the difficulty increases quickly, making precision and timing important from the start. Since it was coded with Lua specifically for the Pico‑8, it has a unique look and feel compared to the later full release of Celeste, where the remake runs on C#.

Players can try Celeste Classic directly in their browser without installation at kbhgames.com, completely free and ready to play in a few clicks. It’s a fast way to experience the game’s roots and see where one of the most respected indie platformers started.
