Deepest Sword
Deepest Sword: Physics Adventure Game
Deepest Sword is a physics-based puzzle adventure game where players travel through a perilous cavern to slay a dragon and rescue a captive kitten. Armed with a blade that grows longer after every failed attempt, you must learn to maneuver the massive weapon through tight underground corridors.
The core challenge isn’t just fighting. It’s moving. Your weapon acts as a physical object in the world, anchoring your knight or vaulting you forward depending on how you swing it. Moving through the Cavern of Longing requires players to figure out mobility techniques that feel entirely unnatural at first. The sword is heavy. You will feel that sheer weight dragging you down during every jump.
The Cave and the Monster
You play as an armored knight tasked with ending the terror caused by a dangerous dragon. The stakes are straightforward. A kitten is trapped in a cage deep within the dark tunnels, and the local town needs peace.
When you first reach the winged enemy, your initial tiny blade proves completely useless. It barely tickles the beast. But with each retaliation from the boss, you start over, and your weapon gets significantly longer. A larger sword means you might finally reach the monster’s heart to destroy it—yet it also makes getting through the narrow cave systems incredibly difficult. You end up having to overcome serious physical obstacles just to drag your massive blade back to the fight.
Deepest Sword was created in exactly 72 hours for the Ludum Dare 48 Jam. Built around the event’s “deeper and deeper” theme, the project handles its gravity and momentum mechanics much better than you’d expect from a weekend build.
As always, remember to have fun!
