SpongeBob SuperSponge

SpongeBob SquarePants SuperSponge – Classic Platform Adventure Game

SpongeBob SquarePants: SuperSponge is a platform-adventure game from 2001 for PlayStation. Players guide SpongeBob through five chapters of side-scrolling action to score a signed photo for Patrick’s birthday.

Story

Patrick’s birthday is coming up. SpongeBob wants to get him a signed photo from Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy. The two retired heroes keep sending SpongeBob on dangerous errands across Bikini Bottom, hoping he’ll quit.

He doesn’t.

Four tasks and several boss fights later—including one against the Flying Dutchman—SpongeBob returns only to find their TV is broken. So he hunts down repair tools too. Once it’s fixed, they finally hand over the autographs. Then the TV breaks again. The game ends with Patrick thanking SpongeBob at his birthday party.

Gameplay

The game has five worlds: Bikini Bottom, The Center of the Earth, Prehistoric Bikini Bottom, Rock Bottom, and the Industrial district. Each world has four levels. The fourth always ends with a boss.

Spatulas are the main collectible. Grab all 100 in a level for an extra life. The two versions handle things differently from there.

On PlayStation, spatulas work like Sonic’s rings. Get hit and you lose them all. Get hit with none and you lose a life. The GBA version uses a separate health bar refilled by Salty Fries, Salty Shakes, and Krabby Patties. Extra lives come from collecting underpants.

Secret Levels

The PlayStation version has hidden bonus stages called “Six Clams Adventure Land.” Collect enough spatulas per chapter to unlock them. These amusement park levels have SpongeBob riding through obstacles and grabbing 25 flower tokens. The tokens buy props for Patrick’s birthday party at the end.

As always, remember to have fun!
