Downhill Mayhem

Downhill Mayhem: Bike Racing With Fists

Downhill Mayhem is a 3D downhill bike racing game where you race five AI riders down a mountain. Pull tricks for boost and punch rivals off their bikes.

It’s a fan tribute to Downhill Domination, the PS2 racer from 2003, built by solo developer pranshuparmar. The chunky low poly look, the fog, even the optional CRT scanline filter all lean into that PS2 era on purpose. You can play Downhill Mayhem right in your browser, no download needed, and it works on phones and tablets with touch controls that appear on their own.

How Do You Play Downhill Mayhem?

The mountain does most of the work. You pedal out of the gate, brake before the big sweeping corners, and hit wooden kickers for air. Start a trick in the air and land after its bar fills to bank boost meter. Land mid trick and you crash, which dumps most of your stored boost.

The rivals fight back. They shove, punch, and kick when you ride close, so swing first with E or F. Land a kick while airborne and you get an AIR STRIKE bonus. And here’s the mean part: any rider you knock down abandons the race plan and hunts you until they’ve decked you back. That grudge system is the best idea in the game. Nothing on a browser page should make you check over your shoulder, but this does.

One tip that actually helps: tuck in behind a rider to slipstream, then punch on the way past. Also, a trick that’s nearly finished can be saved. You wobble and get no payout, but you keep the bike upright.

The Two Mountains

  • Classic: the same 2.3 km course every run, with sweeping turns, steep chutes, and step down drops. Your lifetime best time lives here.
  • Daily: a new mountain generated from today’s date, identical for every player in the world, with its own best time. Press D on the title screen to switch.

The course changes as you drop, going from frosty alpine at the top through pine forest to a warm canyon at the bottom. The groomed line is fastest, but the whole hillside is rideable if you want to cut through rollers and slalom trees.

Ghosts, Grades, and Challenges

Your best run rides next to you as a translucent ghost. Every finish gets a graded stamp from F to A+, and a plain win only earns an A. The top grade takes tricks and knockdowns on top of the win. After a race you can copy a challenge link that carries the exact mountain and your time. Anyone who opens it sees your time as a target on their screen and gets a verdict at the finish line. Finish within half a second of another rider and the game freezes for a photo finish.

Game Controls

W or up arrow to pedal. S or down arrow to brake, or backflip while airborne. A and D or the arrow keys to steer. Space to bunny hop. Z, X, and C for tricks in the air. Shift to boost. E to punch, F to kick. R restarts the race and G toggles your ghost. On mobile, touch controls handle all of it: left thumb steers and brakes, right thumb jumps, tricks, and fights.
