Stackrobats

Stackrobats: A Clever Sokoban Puzzle Experience

Stackrobats is a spatial puzzle game where players control a growing tower of circus performers to secure a trophy at the end of every stage. Moving through the circus tent requires linking acrobats together and using specific environmental objects to clear paths.

Created by Tom Brinton and released by Beep Yeah!, this PICO-8 project heavily tests your logic skills. You begin each stage as the main troupe leader, highlighted in red. Touching any green acrobats on the screen instantly links them to your character. Everyone moves together as one unit from that point on. Figuring out how to maneuver a massive stack of performers through tight corridors is where the actual challenge kicks in.

Tent Mechanics and Hazards

The level design uses circus equipment as your primary tools. Highwires let the characters drop safely to lower platforms. Ladders allow you to climb higher up the tent. And then there are the trampolines. Activating one shoots your connected performers straight across the gap to the other side. You will also run into heavy barrels blocking narrow passages. Pushing these out of the way provides the classic block-shoving element players expect from this genre.

Puzzles require serious foresight. Making a wrong move usually leaves you trapped in a corner. There is no undo button here. You just have to hit the key to restart the sequence from scratch. But the instant reset time keeps frustration low. You wipe the board and immediately try a different angle. The puzzle designs pull more weight than you’d expect for a retro-style title.
