PolyTrack: The Low-Poly Racing Game That Lets You Build Your Own Tracks
PolyTrack is a low-poly arcade racing game where players construct custom circuits and chase lap times down to the exact millisecond. It hands you the keys to a surprisingly deep track editor, turning high-speed driving into a continuous cycle of building, testing, and perfecting.
Inspired heavily by classics like TrackMania, the core loop here isn’t about traditional wheel-to-wheel racing. Instead, it’s entirely focused on the clock. You are trying to figure out the absolute fastest way from the start line to the finish. That often means abusing the physics engine to find shortcuts nobody intended. Sometimes a meticulously designed course can be completely bypassed in a few seconds if you hit a jump at just the right angle. And when you inevitably crash while trying to pull off one of these ridiculous maneuvers, the instant restart button resets your car immediately. That quick turnaround keeps the frustration low.
Right out of the gate, you have access to a solid batch of premade content to get a feel for the handling. There are 15 official tracks and 32 community-designed courses ready to play. These are split across summer, winter, and desert environments. Interestingly, the changing seasons only affect the scenery in the background. Snow or sand won’t alter your tire grip—which makes sense for a game obsessed with consistent physics and precision speed.
The built-in level editor is where the real longevity lies. You aren’t just driving; you are calculating the geometry of ramps, tight curves, and massive loops. Building a track takes a bit of patience at first. Most players will start by snapping together a few straight roads before figuring out how to launch cars over mountainsides. Once you finish a creation, you can export the code to share online. The community forums are already packed with custom design codes and track-building tricks.
To keep things competitive, you can challenge verified lap times from the global leaderboard. The game uses an asynchronous ghost system. Pick an opponent, and their transparent car appears on the track right alongside you. It works perfectly for learning better racing lines. You can also load up your own personal best as a ghost to see exactly where you are losing speed. Before heading out to break a record, you can pop into the garage to customize your ride’s primary and secondary paint colors, frame, and rims.
