Mortal Kombat (Sega)
“Mortal Kombat” is a classic 1992 fighting game developed and published by Midway, marking the first entry in the now-iconic Mortal Kombat series. The game was a big hit and was released on nearly every home gaming platform at the time by Acclaim Entertainment.
In “Mortal Kombat,” players choose from a roster of characters to compete in a one-on-one martial arts tournament with high stakes. The goal in each match is to deplete the opponent’s health bar before time runs out. Winning two out of three rounds secures the match. Players can either battle against the computer or go head-to-head with another player. If a second player joins in during a solo session, they can challenge the current player, and the winner either continues the existing game or starts a new one.
The story of “Mortal Kombat” is set in Earthrealm on the mystical Shang Tsung’s Island, where various locations serve as stages for the battles. According to the game’s lore, Shang Tsung was banished to Earthrealm 500 years ago. With the aid of Goro, a monstrous and powerful warrior, he has taken control of the Mortal Kombat tournament. Goro has won nine consecutive tournaments, and if he wins a tenth, Shao Kahn, the Emperor of Outworld, will conquer Earthrealm. To stop this from happening, a new group of warriors steps up to challenge Goro and protect their realm.
