The Unown King Edition

The Unown King is a fan-made mystery adventure game that focuses on exploring ancient myths tied to a lost ruler known as the Unown King. It was developed for the 2nd Team Aqua ROM-Hacking Competition using the pokeemerald-expansion base. The story centers on discovering what really happened to this forgotten figure and the mysterious temple where he’s said to be sealed.

In the game, players uncover clues hidden in the Temple of the Unown King, where strange symbols and inscriptions may reveal the truth behind its legend. Throughout your journey, you’ll encounter battles, collect Unown scattered around the temple, and put together pieces of a story that even history forgot. Paying attention to dialogue is important—some lines can completely change how smoothly you progress.

The game includes around 100 Pokémon mainly from Generations 1–5, a map inspired by the Gen 5 overworld design, and Final Fantasy VIII–inspired background music. Some boss fights are different from the usual trainer battles—you’ll face single Pokémon with large health bars instead of traditional teams. Even the Hidden Moves work differently; once you have the right HM, you can use it outside of battle if your Pokémon can learn it, without having to teach it directly.

While there are a few bugs, such as audio issues or certain item glitches, they don’t stop the game from being playable. The developer, who is originally Italian, made efforts to polish the English text, though you might spot minor errors here and there. Expect about 10 hours of gameplay depending on your pace.
