Shinobi III: Return Of The Ninja Master (Sega)

“Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master,” also known as “The Super Shinobi II” in Japan, is a dynamic hack-and-slash platform game from 1993. It was developed and published by Sega for the Mega Drive/Genesis. This game is the sequel to “The Revenge of Shinobi” and has been celebrated as one of the best games for the Mega Drive/Genesis.

The gameplay in “Shinobi III” is noted for being smoother and faster than its predecessor, focusing less on difficulty and more on speed and agility. The player controls Joe Musashi, a ninja with an impressive set of new moves. He can dash through the air, scale walls, and perform a running slash that makes him temporarily immune to projectiles, helping him dodge and weave through his enemies.

In addition to his standard moves, Musashi can use one of four special ninja techniques in each level, although more can be found hidden in most levels. These powerful techniques include creating a protective lightning shield, summoning fire-dragons, increasing his jump height, and a self-sacrifice move that destroys nearby enemies at the cost of one life.

The story picks up with the return of the evil crime syndicate Neo Zeed, led by the mysterious Shadow Master. Thought to have been defeated two years prior, their resurgence pulls Musashi away from his peaceful life in the mountains of Japan. He descends once again into battle, determined to stop the Shadow Master and eliminate the threat of Neo Zeed once and for all. This sets the stage for an epic confrontation in a world brimming with danger and action.
