Description

Summon Night: Swordcraft Story is a captivating action-RPG for the Game Boy Advance, marking the series’ debut on the platform. This game combines elements of adventure, crafting, and strategic combat, set within a rich narrative framework.

Character Design and Visuals

The character designs by Ootsuka Shinichirou add a distinct visual flair to the game, enhancing the overall aesthetic and helping to bring the world of Wystern and its inhabitants to life. The vibrant character art and detailed environments are key features that draw players into the game’s fantasy setting.

Storyline

The story begins three years after the death of Shintetsu, the Craftlord of Iron, who sacrificed himself to protect his family and the city of Wystern. Recognized as a hero, his passing leaves a vacancy among the seven Craftlords, prompting the remaining Craftlords to organize a tournament to find his successor. The player steps into the shoes of Shintetsu’s child, who can be either son or daughter based on player choice, embarking on a quest to win the tournament and uncover hidden truths about their father and Parista, the Spirit of Swords lying deep beneath the ocean.

As the narrative unfolds over ten days filled with adventure, the player encounters various characters and challenges, each adding depth to the story and providing insights into the game’s lore and Shintetsu’s mysterious past.

Gameplay Mechanics

Summon Night: Swordcraft Story is structured around a 10-day cycle, with each day introducing new challenges and advancing the plot:

  • Exploration and Combat: Players navigate through the town of Wystern and delve into the depths of the Labyrinth Dungeon. As days progress, new levels in the Labyrinth unlock, demanding players to venture deeper and confront tougher enemies and bosses.
  • Crafting System: True to its name, crafting is a central element of gameplay. Players can forge and enhance weapons, which is crucial for succeeding in battles. The crafting process is not only a tool for progression but also a strategic element that influences combat outcomes.
  • Night Choices: Each night, players choose a character to spend time with, influencing the subsequent narrative cut-scene. These decisions can affect character relationships and story developments, adding a layer of depth to player interactions and decision-making.
  • Side-Quests: In addition to the main story, players can engage in various side-quests provided by NPCs. These quests often involve fetching items and are rewarded with special weapon techniques, enriching the gameplay and providing opportunities for further exploration and character enhancement.
