Smash Remix 2.0.0: A Huge Upgrade for the Classic N64 Fighter

Smash Remix is a fan-made expansion of the original Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo 64. The latest update, version 2.0.0, just dropped in June 2025, bringing a ton of new characters, stages, and features to the classic game.

At its core, it’s still the same chaotic fighting game where players knock each other off platforms, but now with way more options. You can choose from all 12 original fighters—like Mario, Link, and Pikachu—or test out the new “Remix Characters.” These include fan favorites like Ganondorf, Bowser, and Falco, plus some surprising picks such as Banjo & Kazooie and Crash Bandicoot.

There are also “Bonus Characters,” which are more experimental—boss versions of existing fighters, joke characters, or fighters that didn’t exist when the N64 was around. Some, like Metal Mario and Giga Bowser, are overpowered for fun, while others, like Peppy Hare and Mad Piano, are just there to shake things up.
