Gunstar Super Heroes

Description

Gunstar Super Heroes, also known as Gunstar Future Heroes in Europe, is a run-and-gun video game designed for the Game Boy Advance. Released in 2005, it was developed by Treasure and published by Sega. This game serves as the sequel to the 1993 Sega Genesis title, Gunstar Heroes, and it continues the narrative after the initial game, introducing a more developed combat system.

Story

Set after the “God of Ruin” (also referred to as Golden Silver, the ultimate antagonist) is defeated in Gunstar Heroes, the aftermath of the explosion results in the formation of four moons circling Earth. Years later, the emergence of a fifth moon unveils a sinister plot to revive the malevolent Empire and Golden Silver. Protagonists Red and Blue, named in honor of the original Gunstar Heroes’ legendary warriors, are part of an organization called “The Third Eye.” Along with their ally Yellow, they embark on a mission across these moons to thwart the Empire’s revival and reclaim the Treasure Gems—four mystical stones central to the storyline of the original game. The narrative of Super Heroes varies depending on the chosen difficulty and player character.

The character lineup in Gunstar Super Heroes mirrors those from its predecessor, with most sharing names and attributes. However, a significant change is Red’s character, who is now female, contrasting with the male Gunstar Red from the first game.

Gameplay

The gameplay in Gunstar Super Heroes introduces several modifications from its predecessor. The controls for characters Red and Blue have been unified, removing the distinctions between Free and Fixed Shot modes and allowing for more complex and adaptable actions. The original game’s Throw move has been removed, and new melee attacks can now be executed using the A and B buttons along with the D-pad. Unlike the first game, combining weapons is no longer possible; instead, players choose from three distinct weapon types. Additionally, defeating enemies fills a supercharge meter, which, when activated, enables the player to unleash a potent attack.
